These two pieces are part of a larger public art installation staged in the months prior to the building’s demolition. Like much of the Navy Yard neighborhood, the former home of the National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency is being redeveloped for condominiums, retail, and dining. DC Native Kelly Towles and California-based duo Dabs Myla contributed their work knowing that the public would have only a few weeks to see the finished paintings. To some extent, all outdoor murals are temporary because the buildings themselves are temporary. Intentionally temporary murals like these, however, are perhaps made more powerful by their brief existence.
